The Choices We Make

My in-laws live in the beautiful mountains of Wyoming. We go and visit them one or two times a year, and it's always a week full of adventure and awesomeness.

A couple of years ago on one of our trips, I was bummed because I didn't get to hike and explore as much as I wanted to. I had really hoped that my husband would have included me in more of those plans. BUT...I never mentioned it to him until it was really too late for him to change anything. He told me that if there was something I wanted, I just needed to do it, or figure out a way to make it happen. Just sitting around and moping about it wasn't going to get me what I wanted.

So, now on every trip out there I make my intentions known. The "guys" (aka...dads and grandpa) always have hunting plans, and the moms and grandma get stuck with to spend a lot of quality time with the kids. This year on our Thanksgiving trip, I made it a priority to squeeze in a run whenever I could, and that was AWESOME.

And one afternoon, I decided I was even going to go for a hike on my own. Luckily, my mother-in-law didn't feel comfortable with me going solo, so she encouraged my sister-in-law to go with me.

Two moms on the loose in Wyoming.

It was a blast, and a much needed reprieve.

It's funny how even as adults, we can sometimes leave our happiness in someone else's hands. I was 33 years old when my husband had to flat out say to me, "If you want something, you need to figure out a way to make it happen."

I feel like that is a lesson that I try to live out every minute of every day. My happiness is up to me.

When something doesn't go my way, I always have a choice of how to react to the situation. Sure, there may be a temporary mini tantrum, but in the end, I'm not going to let anything else control my happiness. That's up to me.

So today, I challenge you to choose happiness!

Sparkle.Pounce.Be Happy.
