In life, you don't get a trophy for showing up (at least if you are millennium generation +).
The truth is that if you want something you have to work hard, really hard, to get it. You have to make sacrifices and find strength to prevail, even when it seems like things may not work out. And, you have to be ready for challenges and roadblocks - these prove to be a test to see how bad you will fight for what you want.
Easier said then done, but roadblocks can come in a number of forms, such as leadership not believing in your vision, time and physical limitation and overall 'life' limitations. These roadblocks provide a true test to see how badly you want to pursue your dream and how much you will sacrifice to make it happen - when roadblocks come up do you fold or do you push forward?
I have faced a number of roadblocks and mental challenges on a three year journey to achieve a goal and I let my mind convince me that despite all the effort, my goal wasn't going to come true. I fought and folded mentally many times. To most, this inner battle would have went unnoticed to those other than me. (There are times I wish I could turn off the 'inner monologue' switch.)
But, thankfully, I had a number of brilliant mentors who provided the objectivity to guide me. So often, fear is disguised as other behaviors and fear of failure can make you want to turn your back and give up. And, when faced with challenges, this may feed your fears in a way that confirms you aren't deserving. But, if you push forward, and believe you are on the right path, then great things can happen. You can run away, frustrated, and start somewhere new, but then again 'where ever you are, there you are' so why not dig in and be the change you want to see. Fight and don't give up until it is clear you are at a dead end.
So, go get it, and don't take no for an answer because it may just be a little test to see how bad you want it. You can cry about it but you can't quit! Not going to lie … there may have been tears but I didn't quit!
Do What You Dream! That is why we love (did I say LOVE) our motto.
As Journey says, 'don't stop believing' … 'unless your dream is stupid, then you should find another dream' (Kid President). We should all laugh a little more too ...
